It is fair to say that star signing Mario Balotelli has started his City career with a bang - but maybe not so on the field!
The 20-year-old Italian cost the Blues £23m. Balotelli was behind the wheel of his £120,000 Audi R8 when it was in collision with a BMW on Chester Road. The high-powered sports car, which had only just been transported to Manchester from Balotelli's previous home in Milan, was left a write-off after the prang.
Onlookers said the striker was 'lucky to be alive' after the smash, which happened as he was on his way to training.
A bystander who took these pictures of the wreckage, said: "It looked a real mess. The front of it was pretty much smashed in and the BMW was in a bad way too." Balotelli was breathlysed by police at the scene but was not found to be over the drink-drive limit. A City spokesman said he was not injured and turned up for training as normal.
